First one was smashed by an oak that fell, although it wasn't doing really well. Seemed to have vert. wilt. The second one is from Davidsan's planted in ground 2010 (August). Bought three additional ones at Kroger, on sale for 17.99 to plant in out back of garden.
I can't say enough about this maple. It has grown beautifully. The ones I bought at Kroger have had problems with deer eating them, but other than that continue to do well. I have put cages around the two that get eaten. Probably won't post pictures of them at this time.

Acer palmatum 'Korean Gem'
I don't have much about this. Have had it in the ground for a few years and it's not really impressive, just a green palmatum. The leaves are nice and thick and it becomes more attractive each year.
Acer pentaphyllum
Forest Farm in 2010. Really late to emerge in spring. Rare species native to a small area in China. Plant originated from seed, there are only about 2-300 trees in its native habitat. Not hardy in our area. Seems vigorous and easy to grow.
Acer palmatum 'Crimsom Queen'
This was planted next to my pond in 1997. At this time there was a large oak that shaded it quite a bit. When that oak died and was removed, there was more sun shining on the top of the maple, plus we had some drought years. As a result there has been what I think is sunburn of the bark. I don't know if this will eventually lead to its death or not. Trying to train branches over the affected area and grow a container clematis over it. In 2013 a lot of dieback. I was tempted to just take it out and put something else in its place. I decided to keep the dead parts on and let the clematis climb on it. I am not sure where things will go from here.
Acer shirasawanum 'Green Snowflake'
From Davidsan's in 2011. Looks like it will be a winner. In 2013 it has thinned out, has seeds this year.
Acer circinatum 'Little Gem'
Greer 2011. Second plant, first died. A really nice looking one, but doesn't seem happy; hasn't put on any new growth and a few lower branches have died. Soil may be too heavy and we've had tons of rain until July this year. After being moved to a different location this has done really well.
Acer palmatum 'Shin deshojo'
This maple is recommended and loved by a lot of people, so bought one at Davidsan's and planted it in the ground in Aug. 2010. Some dieback 2011, has grown long, sappy branches in 2011. Will need some pruning. As of 2013 it is looking well. The spring color was outstanding.
